After uploading income tax return in e-filing Income Tax portal. Next step is to verify the income tax return (ITR) uploaded. eVerify Income Tax Return (ITR)
The following options exits to verify the ITR through
- Aadhar OTP
- Net-Banking
- EVC (Electronic verification Code)

Steps to e-verify your income tax return (ITR)
Step-1: Login to Income Tax e-filing portal with login ID & password.
Step-2: Go to Dashboard. Select ‘View Returns / Forms’ to display the list of returns filed on the e-filing portal.
Step-3: Click on returns pending for e-verification
Step-4: Select the option ‘e-verify’
Step-5: Once e-verify is selected,
- Through Aadhaar OTP
- By logging into e-filing account through net banking
- EVC through Bank Account Number, or, Demat Account Number, or, Bank ATM
- By sending a duly signed physical copy of ITR-V through post to the CPC, Bengaluru
Step-6: Verification option-wise
- EVC Code: Upon successful generating the EVC through desired mode, enter EVC code and submit.
- Aadhar OTP: Upon clicking on Aadhar OTP, OTP will be sent to mobile number registered with Aadhar mobile. OTP is valid for 30 minutes from the time of generation of OTP. Enter OTP and submit.
- Physical copy sent by Post: Sending by India post / Speed Post to CPC Bengaluru within 120 days of e-filing the return – “Centralized Processing Centre, Income Tax Department, Bengaluru— 560500, Karnataka”.
Step-7: Once ITR is successfully verified. Confirmation message will be displayed ‘Return successfully e-verified. Download Acknowledgement’. Further, notification will be sent to the email id.
Net Banking e-verification process
The following steps can be followed to e-verify using net banking facility:
- Login to Net Banking account of bank linked with PAN number
- Click the ‘e-Filing’ link and system will be redirected to Income Tax e-Filing Portal
- Click on ‘e-File’ Tab and Select ‘Income Tax Return’ from the drop down
- Select the ‘Assessment Year’, and ‘Submission Mode’ & click the ‘Continue’ button
- Submit your Income Tax Return
- This will complete the ITR verification
Bank Account e-verification process
The following steps can be followed to e-verify using Bank Account:
- Login to Income Tax eFiling website
- Select ‘Profile Settings’ & pre-validate your bank account
- Click on ‘e-File’ Tab and Select ‘Income Tax Return’ from the drop down
- Select the ‘Assessment Year’, ‘ITR Form’ & ‘Submission Mode’ & click ‘Continue’
- Select Verification mode as ‘EVC using pre- validated bank account’
- EVC will be sent to the mobile number registered with bank account and is valid for 72 Hours from the time of generation of OTP
- Submit your income tax return
- Enter the EVC on Income Tax e-Filing Portal
- This will complete the ITR verification
Demat Account e-verification process
The following steps can be followed to e-verify using Demat Account:
- Login to Income Tax e-Filing Portal
- Select ‘Profile Settings’ & pre-validate your demat account
- Click on ‘e-File’ Tab and Select ‘Income Tax Return (ITR)’ from the drop down menu. Select the ‘Assessment Year’, ‘ITR Form Name’ and ‘Submission Mode’ and click ‘Continue’
- Select Verification mode as ‘EVC using pre- validated Demat account’
- EVC will be sent to the mobile number registered with demat account and is valid for 72 Hours from the time of generation of OTP
- Enter the Electronic Verification Code (EVC)
- This will complete the ITR verification
Bank ATM e-verification process
The following steps can be followed to e-verify using Bank Account ATM Card:
- Swipe your ATM card at your Bank ATM
- Select ‘PIN for e-Filing’
- EVC will be sent to the mobile number registered with bank account and is valid for 72 Hours from the time of generation of OTP
- Login to Income Tax e-Filing Portal
- Click on ‘e-File’ Tab and Select ‘Income Tax Return’ from the drop-down menu
- Select the ‘Assessment Year’, ‘ITR Form Name’ and ‘Submission Mode” and click ‘Continue’
- Select Verification mode as ‘Already generated EVC through Bank ATM’
- Submit your Return or Upload the XML file
- Enter the EVC on e-Filing Portal
- This will complete the ITR verification
Aadhar OTP e-verification process
The following steps can be followed to e-verify using Aadhar OTP:
- Login to Income Tax e-Filing Portal
- Click on ‘e-File’ Tab and Select ‘Income Tax Return’ from the drop- down menu
- Select the ‘Assessment Year’, ‘ITR Form’ and ‘Submission Mode’ and click ‘Continue’
- Select Verification mode as ‘Aadhaar OTP’
- Submit your Return or upload the XML file
- Click ‘Generate Aadhaar OTP’. OTP will be sent to mobile number registered with Aadhaar and is valid for 30 minutes from the time of generation of OTP.
- Enter the OTP received on mobile and click ‘Submit’
- This will complete the ITR verification
FAQ eVerify Income Tax Return (ITR)
Is verification of return mandatory?
Yes, verification of return is mandatory step to complete the filing process. Thereafter, Income Tax department will initiate the processing of ITR.
How to verify the Income Tax Return?
Income Tax can be verified by the following steps through (1) Aadhar OTP (2) EVC Code generated through Bank Account, Bank ATM, Demat Account (3) Net banking (4) sending by post physical signed copy of ITR. eVerify Income Tax Return (ITR).
