Income Tax Login and Registration
Income-Tax Department has prescribed mandatory filing of Income Tax return through e-Filing portal of Income Tax Department, Government of India. Income Tax Login and Registration
e-Filing portal provides various facilities relating to filing of income tax, tracking the status of return and assessment of return, downloading documents.

Login to e-filing Income Tax Portal
Step-1: Go to ‘e-filing Income Tax website’
Step-2: Click on the tab below ‘Registered User?’ – ‘Login_here’
Step-3: Fill in the following information
- User ID (Fill the PAN number)
- Password
- Captcha
- Click on Login

Pre-requisite of Individual Users registration
Before the taxpayer initiates the registration process, the following documents should be kept readily available:
- PAN (Valid)
- Mobile Number (Valid and active)
- Current Address (Valid)
- Email Address (Valid and active), preferably your own
Process for registering on e-filing income tax website of Individual Users
The following steps need to be taken for registration of Individual users on the e-filing income tax website:
Step-1: Go to ‘e-filing Income Tax website’
Step-2: Click on the tab below ‘New to e-filing?’ – ‘Register Yourself’
Step-3: Select the user type as ‘Individual’, click continue
Step-4: Enter basic details in the tab ‘Please provide the below details as per your PAN’ and then click continue.
- PAN
- Surname,
- Middle Name
- First Name
- Date of birth (DD/MM/YYYY)
- Residential Status – Click Resident or Non-Resident
Step-5: Fill up the registration form
Fill in the following mandatory details:
- Password Details
- Contact Details
- Current Address
- Click ‘Submit’
Step-6: For registration of residents, two 6-digit numeric OTP is generated on Mobile and Email. In case of registration of non-resident, OTP will be generated on the primary email id.
Step-7: The registration process is complete after successfully entering the correct OTP. Confirmation of registration is sent to the registered email address.
Pre-requisites for HUF (Hindu undivided family) registration
Before the taxpayer initiates the registration process, the following documents should be kept readily available:
- PAN (Valid)
- Mobile Number (Valid and active)
- Valid Email Address, preferable belonging to KARTA (Karta means a senior most male member in the family)
HUF (Hindu undivided family) registration process
The following steps need to be taken for registration of Individual users on the e-filing income tax website:
Step-1: Go to ‘e-filing Income Tax website’
Step-2: Click on the tab below ‘New to e-filing?’ – ‘Register Yourself’
Step-3: Select the user type as ‘Hindu Undivided Family (HUF)’, click continue.
Step-4: Enter basic details in the tab ‘Please provide the below details as per your PAN’ and then click continue.
- PAN of Hindu Undivided Family (HUF)
- Name of Hindu Undivided Family (HUF)
- Date of incorporation (DD/MM/YYYY)
Step-5: Fill up the registration form
Fill in the following mandatory details:
- Password Details
- PAN details of Karta
- Contact Details of Karta
- Address of HUF
- Click ‘Submit’
Step-6: For registration of residents, two 6-digit numeric OTP is generated on Mobile and Email. In case of registration of non-resident, OTP will be generated on the primary email id
Step-7: The registration process is complete after successfully entering the correct OTP. Confirmation of registration is sent to the registered email address.

- Valid Email Address, preferably belonging to Principal contact person
Company, Firm, LLP, AOP, BOI. Trust, Government registration process – (Other than excluding Individual / HUF)
The following steps need to be taken for registration of Individual users on the e-filing income tax website:
Step-1: Go to ‘e-filing Income Tax website’
Step-2: Click on the tab below ‘New to e-filing?’ – ‘Register Yourself’
Step-3: Select the user type and sub-user type as per PAN, click continue.
- Company
- Firm
- Body of Individuals (BOI)
- Local Authority
- Trust
- Association of Persons (AOP)
- Artificial Juridical Person
- Government
Step-4: Enter basic details in the tab ‘Please provide the below details as per your PAN’ and then click continue.
- PAN of the organization/entity
- Organization Name
- Date of incorporation (DD/MM/YYYY)
- In the case of a company, select the type of company
Step-5: Fill up the registration form
Fill in the following mandatory details:
- Password Details
- Personal Details of Principal Contact
- Contact Details of Principal Contact
- Address of Organisation/Entity
- Click ‘Submit’
Step-6: For registration of residents, two 6-digit numeric OTP is generated on Mobile and Email. In case of registration of non-resident, OTP will be generated on primary email id. OTP is valid for 24 hours and after that OTP will get expired.
Step-7: The registration process is complete after successfully entering the correct OTP. Confirmation of registration is sent to the registered email address.
